The Nazi-Soviet Non Aggression Pact
- Stalin wanted to begin making Russia act like a regular country.
- He began joining world affairs. He joined the League of Nations.
- He signed a non aggression pact with Hitler which made them agree not to fight with each other.
- The agreed to split Poland in two.
Operation Barbarossa
- In June of 1941, Germany attacked Russia.
- This was a surprise to Russia.
- Despite Stalin having been warned multiple times.
- The Germans used a new tactic which made it even more a surprise to the Germans.
- Cold winter weather eventually halted the Germans attack.
Stalingrad
- The attack on Stalingrad was on September 1st, 1942.
- Germany's motives were to gain control of the oil fields.
- Germany captured most of the city by fighting in the streets.
- On November 23rd, Germans became trapped in the city.
- This was the largest battle in world history.
- It claimed 2,000,000 lives.
